Move along lovely painting, move along….

Today Vintage Cultivation 3 moved to a new home. We wish much enjoyment to the buyer of this wonderful piece. It is a record of the cultivation of a field in preparation for a native perennial wildflower meadow. Work continues on this series in which the paintings begin on a black textured underpainting.

Today I arrived at Dragonfly Arts on Broadway in Orangeville in early afternoon. Broadway is Orangeville's main drag. Joan Hope owns this delightful historic shop which is chock a block full of gorgeous Canadian art of all kinds. Of the 5 paintings that I presented, Joan chose 3 for the fall display at Dragonfly Arts. It is well worth a trip to this pretty little city. The area is general has lots of artistic centres-- great for those fall colour tours. (Now I must get busy at the easel to replace these as I prepare for a first solo exhibition!)

ps Joan chose "Done for the Day", "In Her Dreams", and "Joy Riding"

It's been a very busy couple of months with all the confusion and mess of a main floor renovation. BUT! There's still time for an exhibition. I'm pleased to announce that I have a recent painting in the Neilson Park Creative Centre Annual Juried Show "IMPACT 2015". The opening reception is tomorrow night, Tuesday July 14 , from 7-9 pm. There will be light refreshments and LOTS of beautiful artwork. Entries included paintings, drawings, prints, photography, sculpture, calligraphy, fibre arts and more. You are cordially invited to join me!

Two paintings are finished and another well underway. A view over the rolling countryside of the Mulmur Hills in Dufferin county will be in the Convocation room exhibition for the Fleming College-Haliburton School of the Arts ceremonies. Another view of the Dex the tractor at work is complete.

There are a number of pictures that I would like to do with large light shapes so I will try a different textured underpainting, other than the black one I use now.

Each artist is presenting to the class in order to practice speaking about their work to gallery owners. Speaking clearly and succinctly about your work and/or process, using proper terminology. Tomorrow is my turn. ...

It is great to be back in Haliburton to paint for an entire week! Today I worked on a painting in the series of our meadow being cultivated by Dex the tractor. Only a few decisions left to make in order to ensure that you will look all around the finished work : ) It is still interesting to work with the textured black underpainting. The light colours become lighter and brighter in contrast with the black that peeks through. I will have to try and find black palette paper which might make the decisions easier.

I am absolutely thrilled to let you know that I entered two paintings in the Etobicoke Art Group 51st Juried Art Exhibition, and both have been accepted! It is not at all common that both entries from one artist are accepted in this exhibition. The opening reception will be on Wednesday May 6 at 7:30 pm at the Etobicoke Civic Centre Gallery. The Civic Centre is located at 399 The West Mall, Etobicoke, on the southeast corner of Burnhamthorpe and West Mall. Aside from the fabulous visual feast, on the opening night last year there was a wonderful table of goodies to enjoy with your coffee or tea. All are most welcome to attend.

If you are unable to attend the opening reception, the gallery will be open during these hours:

Monday-Friday 9am - 8pm

Saturday-Sunday 9 am - 5pm

Spring has sprung and so has show season. You may be looking for an outing?

Joshua Creek Heritage Art Centre at 1086 Burnhamthorpe Road in Oakville is currently exhibiting my painting titled The Straight And Narrow in the Artists of Halton Peel Juried show. This show is being held over until May 2, 2015. I have been on the Board of JCHAC for the last 6 years. It's a relatively new gallery with an unusual vision. I must say the quality of the juried show increases each year.

Beaux-Arts Brampton has opened their annual Open Juried Fine Art and Photography Exhibition which will run from March 31 until April 18. My painting title Vintage Cultivation for A .Native Meadow in on view. This is one of my favourites in my recent series.

And finally , I have just delivered 2 paintings (Country Lane , Vintage Cultivation 2) to Dragonfly Arts On Broadway in Downtown Orangeville. This is a wonderful shop packed with all sorts of fabulous paintings, pottery, metal art , hand made jewellery etc - all made by Canadians. Well worth a visit- several resident artists painting and glass workers too.

Best wishes and thanks once again for this indulgence!

Today I've been working on another landscape with Dex the tractor. Pretty much the same palette as the last two but changing up the dominant colour--yellow green for the larger light block. I like the blue blue sky so repeating that along with the warm red earth. Meanwhile we've been having fun finding all sorts of 'creatures' and 'people' that have turned up in the trees because of the technique that I have been using. Though it may go to Instagram first @cherylbaileyarts , stay tuned for a pic

I am very excited to be participating in Progressions IV. This a travelling exhibition of 16 12"x16" landscape paintings by 16 artists. The works will be shown in several locations in Ontario. The closing date is expected to be March 30, 2015 although in the past this exhibition has been held over.

Acclaimed Toronto-based artist John Leonard organized the show which is a collaboration between Fleming College/Haliburton School of the Arts and the McMichael Canadian Collection.

A reception will be held on March 22, 2015 from 12pm-2pm in the Founders' Lounge. John Leonard’s remarks will begin promptly at 12:00pm.

Come visit on Instagram! I'm at @CherylBaileyArts where I am showing work-in-progress on the latest paintings.

Currently I am working on a piece concerning cultivation of the meadow. The tractor is fun to include in the pictures-- did you see the first one "His Happy Spot"? It is the seventh in the current series. I begin with a black textured underpainting.
